I have been cycling as an adult since the late 1980's. I began when a friend asked me if I would care to ride in a charity ride, an MS-150. I had no idea what he was talking about. I was riding a Peugeot U 08 that was about 18 years old and weighed more than my car.

I was still riding in cut-off Levis and running shoes. I began a training program. (more about this experience later)

You are not dealing with a bike mechanic. I keep my bike(s) clean and mostly adjusted myself. For other work I visit the local bike shop (LBS). That is a decision that each of us must make.
